Plenary Session
How do microbial communities adapt and function under environmental stress, and what can these dynamics teach us about restoring ecosystems? In this keynote, Dr Manpreet Dhami shares insights from host-associated and environmental microbiomes—ranging from geothermal soils to native birds and plants. Her research highlights the power of perturbation experiments and natural gradients to reveal microbial responses to change. Drawing on collaborations with Indigenous communities, conservation groups, and policy partners, she explores how microbiome science can inform biosecurity, support ecological restoration, and contribute to culturally grounded, science-based stewardship of biodiversity.
