During this talk we'll be discussing Cerys' journey from university to working in local government and every extracurricular activity in between. It can be challenging to engage with the outside world when you are deeply focussed on your research, but it is essential to invest time in your wellbeing. We’ll also be discussing how relevant your academic skillset can be to other sectors including local government.
Cerys completed her BSc Biology at Swansea University (2018-2021) before her PhD at the University of East Anglia (2021-2025). Cerys passed her PhD viva in November 2025 and started in her role as an Environmental Scientist at Norfolk County Council the following month. Throughout her academic journey, Cerys has been keen to engage in outreach opportunities to improve accessibility to science as well as being an active player for her local rugby team.
