Christiana Figueres Policy to Practice Award

The Christiana Figueres Policy to Practice Award is established to acknowledge the pivotal role of individuals who bridge the gap between microbiological research and policy. In line with Sustainable Development Goal’s, this award recognises those who have excelled not just in their scientific research but have also played a crucial role in translating their findings into practical and impactful solutions to real world problems. It honours the dedication and innovative efforts of these individuals in utilising microbiological insights to inform and shape effective strategies, addressing one or more challenges of our time.

The recipient of the award shall receive:

  • £3,000 in prize money
  • A commemorative plaque highlighting their achievement
  • An invitation to submit an article to an AMI-owned journal
  • The opportunity to present/chair at an AMI conference, webinar, roundtable, or similar event
Who should apply:

 

Ideal candidates are those who:

  1. Engage in Multidisciplinary Research: Conduct research that is relevant to one or more of the 17 SDGs, showcasing a deep understanding of complex global challenges across various disciplines.
  2. Translate Research into Policy: Have a proven ability to translate scientific research into practical solutions. This includes working collaboratively with policymakers, stakeholders, and communities to ensure that research findings are effectively integrated into policy decisions and implementations.
  3. Demonstrate Impact: Show evidence of how their work has led to significant, measurable improvements in addressing SDG-related challenges, whether at a local, national, or international level.
  4. Exhibit Leadership and Innovation: Display leadership qualities and innovative approaches in their field, inspiring others and setting a benchmark for excellence in policy-oriented research.
  5. Commit to Sustainability: Show a long-term commitment to sustainable development, with a clear vision for how their work contributes to achieving the SDGs.

 

Nominations close 26 July 2024. Following this, AMI's internal awards panel will evaluate the nominations and decide on a winner, which will be announced on 16 October.
