For students and trainees attending AMI or AMI-sponsored scientific events, including conferences, symposia, workshops, webinars, and training courses.
Applied Microbiology International provides grants to help its members with a variety of needs including training, meeting support, career development and assistance in attending conferences. There are different eligibility criteria and closing dates for each grant scheme, so please check each grants terms and conditions for further information about how to apply.

Grant applications are assessed by grants panels who are usually considering many applications at any one time. To help the process, please keep your applications as clear as possible and provide all information that is requested.
Registration Fees Grant
For members actively participating in scientific events, conferences, symposia, workshops, webinars or training courses.
Scientific Event Travel Grant
For members wishing to attend local and international scientific events, conferences, symposia, workshops, webinars or training courses
Carers Support Grant
For members needing financial support for childcare or dependent care to enable them to attend meetings or events that align with AMI’s strategic goals.
Professional Development Support Grant
For members participating in key developmental activities, such as workshops, training courses and mastering laboratory skills and techniques.
Summer Studentship Grant
For members seeking funding for summer research projects for undergraduates, recent graduates, and Master’s students in the field of applied microbiology.
New Professional Research Grant
For members who are newly appointed professionals - including lecturers, researchers, industry scientists, or clinical specialists - seeking support to establish or advance their applied microbiology work.
Sustainable Microbiology Novel Research Grant
For members driving research that leads to significant scientific breakthroughs and supports global sustainability through microbiology.
Community Outreach Grant
NEW for 2026, a new grant for members leading activities that promote public engagement, education, and community involvement in applied microbiology.
Horizon Awards
The Horizon Awards recognise individuals and teams at the forefront of microbiological research.
