The Role of Methane-Producing Anaerobes in One Health

30 April 2025 12pm – 2pm EDT + Add to calendar Webinar

As part of the Microbes and Social Equity (MSE) Speaker Series, this webinar features Dr Michel Geovanni Santiago-Martínez, who will explore how methane-producing anaerobes—especially archaea—fit into the broader framework of One Health. Drawing on his research into the metabolism, survival strategies, and ecological roles of methanogenic archaea, Geo will discuss how these often-overlooked microbes shape environmental systems, animal health, and human wellbeing.

The session will explore how methane-producing microbes influence carbon cycling, climate change, and microbial interactions within host-associated microbiomes. Expect insights from microbial ecophysiology, as well as reflections on the importance of inclusive science and international collaboration.

The MSE Speaker Series brings together researchers working at the intersection of microbiology, equity, and sustainability, and is open to AMI Members.
