AMI invites applications for an Associate Editor role for its flagship journal, Journal of Applied Microbiology (JAM), for an initial 3-year term starting in July 2026.

Launched in 1938, Journal of Applied Microbiology is the flagship title of Applied Microbiology International, whose members benefit from free online access and discounts on open access publishing fees. Journal of Applied Microbiology aims to publish studies which represent a significant advance in the field. The journal serves as a platform to promote all aspects of applied microbiology.


The Candidate

We are seeking an experienced academic editor who has expertise in systems microbiology, omics, bioinformatics, microbial genomics

He/she/they

  • Will be an active researcher
  • Will have experience in an editorial role handling submissions for a reputable journal and some knowledge of publishing ethics
  • Will be a team player, committed to providing excellent author service and to AMI’s diversity and inclusion values
  • AMI welcomes applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations

The Role

As an Associate Editor, you will manage 50-100 submissions per year in your subject area, triaging or assigning reviewers as appropriate, overseeing the peer review process, ensuring timely decisions while upholding the highest ethical standards and striving to give all authors the best experience in their interactions with JAM.
