Communicating research and evidence to the public can often seem like a daunting task. Fear of backlash, dealing with polarised views and concerns about information being taken out of context can deter Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from wanting to engage with the public discourse around science and evidence. Researchers also say they don’t feel confident or well-equipped to deal with this challenging environment and stand up for science in public discussion.

As part of Sense about Science's Voice of Young Science (VoYS) programme, they support ECRs to navigate this complex environment by hosting Standing up for Science workshops. These workshops aim to motivate, empower, and equip ECRs to participate in public discussions on science and evidence and to learn how to engage effectively with policymakers and the media.

Sense about Science's next  Standing up for Science workshop will be at Norwich Research Park on Thursday, 14 May from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

As a researcher associated with Applied Microbiology International, you have access to free priority places to attend the workshop.

To apply for your free place please use this link: Standing up for Science workshop – Norwich Research Park - Sense about Science

At the workshop, you will learn from insightful panellists, have the opportunity to discuss with your peers your current challenges in communicating research and potential solutions.

You will also gain access to resources to help you engage with the public, media, and policymakers.
