Returning for its thirteenth year, the Early Career Scientist Research Symposium has been rebranded the Letters in Applied Microbiology ECS Research Symposium and will take place on 17 May 2023 at Riddel Hall in Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland.

A flagship title of AMI, Letters in Applied Microbiology (LAM) has a new vison to support and develop the next generation of applied microbiologists. The journal will serve the needs of ECS, both as authors and future editors. Members of the journal editorial team and other AMI staff will be on hand at the symposium to talk to delegates, listen to your needs and help you shape our future plans.

Registration is open to all of those who would like to attend and participate. The symposium is designed to provide a welcoming space for people to share research, network with other students, PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers, and to learn about cutting-edge work in sustainable microbiology from our panel discussions. This year, the ECS Symposium will also be the place to see what we — as individual early career researchers, and as a community — need to do to continue pushing for equitable change.

Although the symposium is principally for the benefit of early career scientists, we strongly urge middle and senior career researchers to attend and further enhance networking opportunities for all delegates.

Abstract submissions are open for poster presentations and 15-minute talks. Abstract submission closes 2 April 2023. Members who may need support to present their work at the sympsoium may be eligible for the Don Whitley Travel Bursary.

Students and faculty of Queen's University Belfast can attend for free as a thank you for being this year's hosts!
