Open Access Publishing Fees Grant

Applied Microbiology International (AMI) offers the Open Access Publishing Fees Grant to support members to publish their cutting-edge research under an open access licence in AMI’s Journals to enable the widest possible dissemination and help AMI achieve its goals.

Eligibility:

  • Open to associate and full members wishing to publish their research paper in one of AMI’s Journals.
  • A minimum of 13 months of continuous and active AMI membership required.
  • The proposed paper should:
    • represent a significant advance in its field,
    • make a tangible contribution to one of AMI’s goals.
  • Preference given to those whose funders require them to publish research under a CCBY licence where institutional funding is not available.
  • This grant must be approved before the submission of the applicant’s manuscript.
  • Authors at institutions with Read & Publish agreements or in countries that are eligible for waivers are not eligible for this grant – check here for details.

Grant Details and Financial Support:

  • The grant provides funds to cover the publication of one research article under a CCBY open access licence in an AMI Journal. Fees vary by journal.
  • If approved, the grant will be paid by AMI directly to the publisher should the paper be accepted.

Application Requirements:

Please provide:

  • An abstract for the research paper you wish to publish stating which journal you intend to submit to.
  • An impact statement outlining the importance of the findings, how they contribute to AMI’s goals and why the paper should be globally accessible.
  • A list of 2-5 recent papers you  or your group have published.
  • A statement of funder/institutional requirements to publish open access.

Selection Criteria:

The Editor of the intended journal will award the grant based on:

  • Quality and impact of the work.
  • Contribution to AMI’s goals.

Award Requirements:

  • The awardee must submit the proposed article to the Journal the grant has been awarded for within a month.
  • NB: submissions are subject to the journal’s normal peer review process and may be rejected. If the paper is rejected by the chosen journal the grant becomes null and void.

Grant information and Application Process:

  • There will be 15 grants available per year and they will be awarded on a first come first served basis. 
  • Grants can be applied for at any time. The grant will be closed when funds have been spent for the year.
