In 2022, Applied Microbiology International (AMI) won the UK Government’s My Science Inquiry pitch where we highlighted bacteriophage as an alternative to antimicrobials, resulting in the inquiry launched by the House of Commons Science, Innovation & Technology Committee last year. A report on this inquiry was published by the Committee in January 2024 and the government published a response to the report in March 2024.

Due to the increasing interest in the potential of bacteriophage, AMI will be hosting an online roundtable on bacteriophage and their potential use across the different sectors within the UK later this year. The roundtable will not only include exciting keynote speakers who will highlight their research on phage applications across the One Health spectrum; it will also be a gathering of academic experts, regulators, industry, and potential phage users in a discussion panel to delve into the myriad of potential bacteriophage applications in the UK. It will also provide experts with the opportunity to debunk myths and answer questions, helping to gage social perceptions towards introducing phage more widely.
